German Army Wehrpass Obergefreiter Karl Heist (21ID & 267ID) Artilleryman KIA August 1941
Original German army Wehrpass issued to Obergefreiter Karl Heist, born 18.08.1915. Prior to military service, he completed a years worth of service with the RAD (Reich Labour Service) before joining the army in November 1937. He was orginally attached to Artillery Regiment 31 until August 1939 who formed part of the 21st Infantry Division. In August 1939 he was transferred to Artillery Regiment 267 of the 267th Infantry Division, being heavily involved in the invasions of France and Belgium before operation Barbarossa. He would be killed in action in late July 1941. He was awarded the Iron Cross only three weeks before his death. He received full training with the K98K rifle and the Lfh.18 field howitzer.
