German Army Wehrpass Unteroffizier Friedrich Schmidt Stalag 319 Guard & 56 ID Killed In Action

Original German Army Wehrpass issued to Unteroffizier Friedrich Schmidt born 07.06.1907. Schmidt completed regular army training and was first assigned in April 1941 to Stalag 319 in Cholm, Poland. Here tens of thousands of predominantly Soviet prisoners of war were kept in squalid conditions by abusive and cruel camp staff. Schmidt would serve here for two years prior to his transfer to frontline service in May 1943 attached to Grenadier Regiment 171 subordinate to the 56th Infantry Division operating at the battle of Kursk. It was during this battle he would be killed in action on the 12th August 1943. His Wehrpass also records he received briefings on Basic espionage. Unfortunately his Identification photograph has been removed.
