Incredible Photo Album & Citation Grouping To Oberleutnant Fritz Hohensee

Possibly the best photo album we have encountered, complete with over 500 individual photographs in various sizes relating to the service of Oberleutnant Fritz Hohensee of Gren.Ers.Btl.82/ J.R.82 and later Gren.Rgt.149.

Hohensee was a military man, starting his service in the army as a non commissioned officer during the early 1930s. He would break from this and Join the SS under I/15 SS Standarte. He received the sports badge in bronze during this period. A large photograph of him in the SS is included. He would later go back into the army and take a commission as an officer. He was present for the invasions of Poland and Russia. Most of these photographs are related to the early war progress of the German war machine during Blitzkrieg. He would later be attached to Grenadier Regiment 149 who were operating in France prior to the Normandy landings. He would see combat in Normandy.

Included with this group is four award citations for the War Merit Cross 2nd and 1st class. With the first class document being signed by Generalleutnant Siegfried Macholz (KC) who would be his divisional commander in Normandy. The wound badge in black and the Eastern Front campaign medal.

It is incredible just how many photographs he took or had people take for him. Some absolutely incredible photos inside. Including many with his dog “Rex”, subjects like fortifications, combat, photos on leave and during site seeing with fellow officers, the locals, celebrations and so much more.
