Large Grouping Two Brothers NSDAP Member & Monte Cassino Interest Both KIA Heinrich & Max Gegenfurtner

Large family group to two brothers who were both killed in action during WW2.

Heinrich Gegenfurtner was born 16/08/1914 and served in several Infantry Units during the invasion of France and the Soviet Union. He was awarded the Iron Cross Second Class, Eastern Front Medal, Infantry Assault Badge and the Wound Badge in Black. He was killed in action 20/05/1943. Prior to WW2, Heinrich was a member of the NSDAP and Sturmabteilung. Both his Party membership book and oilcloth SA members book are included. Amongst his other belongings are his Wehrpass, Arbeitsbuch and several notices from the family and party commending a fallen comrade. It’s worth noting the NSDAP memorandum is particularly nice, not a variant we have seen before.

His Brother Max Gegenfurtner was born 19/09/1924 and joined the army in 1943 and would see service in occupied Belgium and Italy. His last recorded unit was the 12th company of Grenadier Regiment 131 (Mot) who were majorly involved at Monte Casino. Max was killed in action 08/01/1944 during the firefights leading up to the first battle. His death ties in with those important defensive battles on the Bernhardt line. Alongside Max’s Wehrpass is his death card and a hand written letter from his mother, dated January 26th 1944. Sadly over two weeks after he had already died. She had clearly sent this before receiving any notice of her son’s death.

This is an incredible complete group, with great interest on both sides with a soldier who had NSDAP membership and the other serving in Italy during the most intense fighting. We have only done basic research here and more can easily be done with so many open avenues to look down.
