American Civil War Export M1854 Pinfire Lefaucheux Pistol

Original Lefaucheux made M1854 Pinfire revolver exported to the USA during the American Civil War. This particular example is reasonably well worn but 100% original without any later modifications or repairs. The revolver cycles correctly, however the hammer does not always lock. A nice period patina still present with the untouched wooden grips. Revolvers ram rod is merely display only and in no way functional. It appears it was only put in to “fill a gap”. It is also worth noting, the sight on the barrel is absent. Serial numbers from approximately 25000 to 37000 were of those exported to America by the purchasing agent Colonel G.L.Schuyler. This guns serial number (35749) fits comfortably in this, giving clear indication it was sent stateside. This weapon is of an obsolete calibre so therefore is completely legal to own by anyone over the age of 18 in the United Kingdom.

A short history on these pistols:
At the outbreak of the US Civil War, both Union and Confederate agents rushed to Europe to buy arms. The Federal Ordnance Department purchased 12,000 to 14,000 M1854 revolvers, making it the first self-contained cartridge sidearm issued to U.S. troops.
During the American Civil War, the M1854 saw extensive use by cavalry regiments, including the 2nd Kansas Cavalry and various Missouri and Kentucky units. Overall a nice piece of ACW history that with some minor alterations, could be improved to a much more functional and complete example.
