M1865 American Civil War Burnside Company Made Spencer Repeating Cavalry Carbine

Original American Civil War period Spencer Repeating Cavalry Carbine produced by the Burnside company (Serial number 14258) circa 1865. Effectively the rifle that paved the way to modern firearms.

First production started in 1863 during the height of the American Civil War. Only 34,500 would go on to be made by the Burnside Rifle Company and their production dates were 1865-1866 just after the war had ended. Many would later see service in the Indian wars. A very popular choice amongst the Union army cavalry. This breech operated repeater fired .50 rounds which proved to be the smoothest shot without drop off for cavalry. Famous users included the 7th Cavalry at the battle of Little Big Horn. A truly remarkable survivor not often encountered.

Our example is absolutely perfect, without repairs or refinish. Exactly as it was found. Carbine can be dry fired and remains fully functional. You would be very hard pressed to find a rifle that could be an upgrade on this. Priced very fairly against the market value. This carbine is of an obsolete calibre so entirely legal to own by anyone over the age of 18 in the United Kingdom. More photographs can be sent on request.
