German Army Soldbuch Gefreiter Karl Volk Pz.Pi.Btl.60/ Pz.Bruckenkolonne 894 Salerno & Ardennes
Original German army soldbuch issued to Gefreiter Karl Volk who was originally assigned to Panzer Pioneer Battalion 60 of the XIV Armeekorps. This unit was originally destroyed at Stalingrad and refitted and reorganised in Italy ahead of the Salerno Landings. Karl Volk had joined the Army in April 1943 and was present in Italy for the landings. During the fighting he received a grenade splinter to the Eye which saw him receive the Black Wound Badge 13/10/1943. After recovery he was reassigned to Pz.Bruckenkolonne 894 (Panzer bridge building column) forming part of the 5th Panzer Army. He would go on to serve heavily during the Ardennes offensive. During the Ardennes offensive he suffered injuries from Grenade/ Artillery fire on 25th January 1945. He remained hospitalised until April 13th which was the last entry in the book. It is unknown whether he recovered from these injuries. Included with his Soldbuch is his citation for his only listed award, the wound badge in black. A really nice honest soldbuch with Italy campaign and Ardennes interest.
