Brass Core Iron Cross First Class Kriegsmarine Issue

Original KM issue brass core Iron Cross First Class. These particular Iron crosses were fitted with brass cores over iron to avoid corrosion against sea water. If exposed over long periods of time to the sea and its salty air, the Iron would eventually begin to oxidise. To avoid this, at the turn of the century the cross makers began fitting brass cores to the crosses. This example shows evident signs of heavy use age with some paint flaked off of the front of the award. The medal is an unmarked variant. A nice original piece.
