German Army Soldbuch Sonderfuhrer Josef Weissweiler With Citations Etc

Original German army Soldbuch issued to a Sonderfuhrer named Josef Weissweiler. First assigned to Jager Regiment 24 which was attached to the 21st Infantry Division he served in the battles of Poland and France as the first wave of troops. At this point he was in the enlisted ranks. He later joined Jager Regiment 407 in October 1940 until December 1942 where he was attached to the 121st ID during the siege of Leningrad. He was wounded twice during this period and recieved the wound badge in black and silver. He was deemed unfit for service after his injuries and sustained a permanent stiff knee and trained as a paymaster. He later got it commission and was reassigned to the western front. His final actions of the war involved him being made battalion commander of Ld.Schtz.Btl.486 who were based at Arnsberg and they eventually surrendered to US forces in mid April 1945. There is loads of entries in his Soldbuch, I have not been able to research everything. Many letters including letters from the field hospital regarding his wounds. Three citations are included, two being field issued versions for the wound badge in black and Iron Cross Second Class. There is also a postcard size photograph. The Soldbuch is the same one he had throughout the entire war and does show signs of age with loose pages however it is complete. A nice officers group certainly worth further research.
