Sterling Silver 1913 Cigarette Case Presented To Lieut. Phillimore 8/A&SH 1913 Killed in Action 1915
Original WW1 cigarette case issued to Lieutenant Hugh Bouchier Phillimore (1873-1915) by the NCOs and men of 8th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. Phillimore rose to the rank of Captain in charge of the units Machine gun section. Son of an Admiral and was killed by wounds recieved in 1915. He is buried at Le Touret, France. Much more history about Phillimore and his family can easily be found online. Cigarette tin in good shape with period patina, weighing just over 156 grams and attributed to a Cheshire silversmith. The biggest sterling cigarette tin we have ever had, suitable for Superking sized cigarettes. Cigarette band still flexible without stiffening.
