German Army Soldbuch RUB-Obergefreiter Josef Wöhrer 331 Artillery Regiment NORMANDY

Original German army Soldbuch issued to Oberkannonier later RuB Obergefreiter Josef Wöhrer of 331 Artillery regiment of 331 Infantry Division. Born 10th March 1914 Wöhrer joined the army in late 1941 and was attached to Artillery Ersatz Abteilung 96. He was first transferred to the eastern front where he saw active service during operation Barbarossa. By September 1942 he was attached to Artillery Regiment 331 (331 Inf Div) and was wounded by shrapnel in January 1943. The division was withdrawn from the front for refitting in early 1944 and was sent to Northern France. In June 1944 the Normandy landings began and Wöhrer’s division was the first to break out of the Falaise pocket. Their breakout was in attempt to fall back to defend Paris however the division suffered huge casualties in Normandy, first at St.Lǒ and Caen and also when breaking out of Falaise. The division was in tatters and he was assigned to Artillery Regiment 108 and sent to the Antwerp area of Belgium. His unit saw heavy combat in the Elaß from December 1944 to February 1945. The unit was completely destroyed by the US army. Wöhrer’s last unit was Art.Regt.1316 serving alongside the 16th Volks Grenadier Division. He spent the final months of the war at Obernheim. Wöhrer recieved the Eastern front campaign medal and wound badge for his service in Russia and later the Iron Cross second class for his service on the western front. A really nice full Soldbuch in good condition overall.
