German Army Soldbuch Unteroffizier Richard Weidmann Wound Badge in Gold!

Original German army Soldbuch to Unteroffizier Richard Weidmann of Inf.Ers.Btl.342 and later Gren.Btl.95 which served with the 17th Infantry division on the eastern front. Weidmann enlisted with the army during the units stationing in France in 1942. By April 1943 the division returned to the eastern front fighting at Mius, Nikopol, Uman, Kishinev and Jassy. By August 1944 the unit was transferred to Poland in the area of the Vistula river. The division suffered heavy losses here in January 1945 during the Soviet Vistula-Oder offensive.

In the Soldbuch there is an abundance of entries. Several injuries are listed in the book and it appears he was seriously wounded in September 1944 as he never returned to the frontline after this. In February 1945 Weidmann was issued the wound badge in Gold and on the 20th recieved the Iron Cross Second and First class simultaneously. His bravery must of been that good to have received both Iron crosses and the wound badge in Gold. Weidmann was discharged from hospital well after the end of the war in September, 1945.

Included with his Soldbuch is his original hand written citation of his Wound badge in Gold. The signature matches that of the officer in his Soldbuch. Unfortunately the Soldbuch was water damaged at some point and all of the paper was affected. It appears Weidmann over wrote on important details of the book including home details, pay and his Wound badge certificate. Due to the water damage the photo is missing. It appears the wetness stuck it to the first page.

Needless to say despite the damage of the book this is a fascinating Soldbuch with a rare citation. Also included is three photos with one man we can assume was Weidmann. Due to the damage this grouping is priced accordingly.
