German Army Soldbuch Pioneer Obergefreiter Rüdolf Rüdolf Pi.Ers.Btl.24

Original German army Soldbuch named to Rüdolf Rüdolf (yes, his first name is also his last name!) he served with 5/ Pi.Ers.Btl.24 and H.Pi.Btl.652. His enlistment date was 17th January 1942 and was sent to Stalingrad where he served until his unit was destroyed. He was hospitalised twice during his service in the summer of 1942 and 1944 both for digestive complaints. Towards the end of the war he served under the command of Ferdinand Shoener in the Courland Peninsula, Latvia. For his lengthy service in the infamous “Kurland Pocket” he was awarded the Kurland cuff band on April 20th 1945. His pay book is somewhat tatty due to long service however all pages are present. With his book is an original M44 style shoulder strap which he would have worn later in the war. A nice small group.
