German Army Soldbuch Unteroffizier Erich Burwick Beob.Abt.29

Original German army Soldbuch issued to Unteroffizier Erich Burwick of Beobachtungs. Abteilung 29 (Artillery Listening unit) these units were the eyes and ears of the Artillery. Oftenly deployed way infront of artillery and in positions with vantage points on targets. They helped pinpoint perfect artillery fire on objectives, the help of Beobachtung units made German artillery lethally accurate. Burwicks unit was first posted to southern Russia where it was attached to the 29th Infantry division. From 10th February 1942 it was stationed in Stalingrad. He joined the Beob.Abt.31 in June of that year. After the loss at Stalingrad, the Germans began their retreat. In October 1944 Burwick was transferred to Beob. Ers. Abt. 6 which he served with until he was made a POW, most likely around the area of Warburg. During Burwicks service, he earned the Iron cross second class, Eastern front campaign medal, assault badge, Krim shield and Schutzwall medal. We have not done much research regarding this Soldbuch so it would certainly be worth more detailed analysis.
