German Army Soldbuch Normandy Gefreiter Stefan Wienst Landshutzen.Ers.Btl.12
Original German army Soldbuch issued to Gefreiter Stefan Wienst of VKP. Landschutzen.Ers.Btl.12 who saw active service during the invasion of Normandy. During the date of the initial invasion, Wienst was in a field hospital at Cherbourg with pneumonia until 07/06/1944. His unit during intense fighting with the allies and disbanded. From here he was attached to Kampfgruppe Krause of the 462nd Division. They retreated with a new HQ setup in Chalons, East of Paris. It was at this point he was subject to pneumonia again, likely from fatigue and was readmitted into hospital. Wienst continued serving on the western front until the end of the war with periods in and out of hospital. It is hard to imagine the amount of stress this particular soldier would have had to endure from the Normandy landings until wars end. Overall a superb book which could be researched even further.
